David B. Irwin  was elected to the Superior Court bench in November 1998 and took office January 1, 1999. He is currently serving his fifth term and is the Chief Judge of the Rockdale Judicial Circuit.

Judge Irwin previously served Rockdale County as a Public Defender and State Representative.

Rockdale County has two Superior Court Judges who are each elected to staggered, four year terms.

The Superior Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction and has exclusive, constitutional authority over felony cases (except involving juveniles) prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Office. Cases include title to land, equity, declaratory judgments, habeas corpus, mandamus,  adoptions, custody and divorce.
