ROCKDALE COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

September 7, 2023

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. – A powerful coalition of community leaders are coming together to address the critical issue of homelessness in Rockdale County. The Joint Conyers-Rockdale Homeless Task Force, initiated by Chairman Oz Nesbitt Sr., will include selected members put forth by Chairman Nesbitt Sr., Conyers Mayor Vince Evans, and Rockdale County School Superintendent Dr. Terry Oats as they collaborate to find ways to address homelessness in Rockdale County.

The Joint Homelessness Task Force is a collaborative effort driven by a shared commitment to positively impact the lives of homeless individuals and families in the community. It will be composed of fifteen (15) selected and dedicated task force members from various sectors, including Non-Profit Management, Social Services, Education, Mental Health, and Public Safety. The task force will be challenged to identify and develop quantifiable recommendations to combat homelessness within Rockdale County.

Chairman Oz Nesbitt Sr. expressed his support for the initiative, saying, “The housing crisis and homelessness is an issue that affects communities across the United States, and that includes Conyers and Rockdale. This task force is a step toward progress as we begin to address homelessness in our community. We have talked about it long enough, and it’s time for Rockdale to do something about it!”

An informal informational kick-off meeting will be held in October, followed by the establishment of regular meetings during the first quarter of 2024. Members will be asked to engage actively throughout the upcoming months, meeting as often as necessary to achieve the desired outcomes of this community-focused initiative successfully.

Additional task force updates will be provided as the initiative develops.
