Sue Sanders

Chief Operating Officer

Sue Sanders is the Chief Operating Officer who collaborates with all County departments, Elected Officials, and Department Heads to facilitate internal communications across all levels of the organization and direct departmental efforts towards the overall goals and objectives of the board of commissioners. She also provides guidance and assistance for all projects and initiatives from the Chairman and the Board of Commissioners.

Chief Sanders also works with citizens and stakeholder groups to accomplish the community's goals and is currently managing the Judicial and Administrative Complex project.

Previously, she has held several roles in Rockdale County Government, including Director of General Services, Director of Recreation and Maintenance, Deputy Director of Recreation and Maintenance, Deputy Director of Public Works, and Assistant Director of Parks Maintenance. She also served in Public Services and Engineering and Rockdale Water Resources.

During her tenure as Director of Recreation and Maintenance, her department put much effort into acquiring and implementing a master plan at the County's newest 77-acre destination park, Costley Mill. Many new amenities were added there, such as the recently constructed state-of-the-art event center.

Chief Sanders has been serving Rockdale County for 22 years and has proven to be a skilled and versatile leader. Her organizational management and problem-solving skills have made her capable of serving in other areas during department transitions.

She earned a Public Works Management Certificate and an Advanced Certificate from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. In 2020, she also earned her Certified County Official Status from ACCG and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. She is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Rockdale and remains active as an alumnus. Additionally, she is a Georgia City County Management Association member and serves on the Board of the Arabia Mountain Heritage Alliance.

Chief Sanders holds an associate degree in general education and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Troy University.

Lastly, Chief Sanders enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters. When not serving Rockdale, she likes to travel or spoil her twin granddaughters, Dani and Daleia.
